Someone Is Howling Outside My Window

The first dollhouses appeared several centuries ago, and their original purpose was not to play, but to demonstrate the wealth of their owners. Miniature pieces of furniture and other objects were often small copies of real ones, and also showcased the craftsmanship of their makers.
The project “Something Is Howling Outside My Window” is a dollhouse that pulls the viewer into a game. It is not a game of learning gender roles, housekeeping, or the rules of a pleasant interior, but a game of the subconscious. Each room is surreal and filled with symbols familiar to everyone. When combined with each other, they form odd stories. There are four rooms. Under the roof, there is a boat-bed floating on crystal waves in the room “Cave” and the paper theater dissappearing in the dark in the room “Stage”. Down below, the red soft walls that surround the cosy nest are in the room “Core”, and the digital pool of dreams and nightmares flickering in the thickets in the centre of the room “Garden”. Outside of these spaces is the beaded cosmos, protected by the Angel.
This house is a self-portrait of the artist, demonstrating not material wealth, but that of their creative mysteries. It is like a world through the looking glass, shrouded in black stars and invisible ideas, pushing forward the imagination of those who peer into the house windows. This work not only continues the tradition of creating a miniature world, and spotlights the craftsmanship, but also asks the question about the importance of games and fantasizing, and the reflection of the surrounding world in the inner world.
